Black Box Theatre Co. brings riotous laughs to Granville Island with THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG at the Waterfront Theatre this August. Directed by Tracy Labrosse, under the premise of a classic Country House murder mystery, the play delivers a brilliant farce with a healthy dose of physical comedy – like Agatha Christie meets Monty Python.

Written by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields of Mischief Theatre Company, the story takes place on the opening night of the Cornley Drama Society’s production of The Murder at Haversham Manor – a 1920s large cast murder mystery play, similar to Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap. Unfortunately for the cast, but to the delight of audiences, the Cornley Drama Society is renowned for overestimating their abilities and for enduring mishaps during their productions, and we soon find out this performance is no different.
THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG was first produced in London, England in 2012 and has enjoyed long-running, successful productions both in London’s West End and on Broadway. Audiences can’t get enough of the hilarious comedy as it is regularly produced by theatre companies all around the world. Coming back to Vancouver August 13 to 30 at Waterfront Theatre, THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG, or as Black Box Theatre Co is calling it – Granville Island Goes Wrong, is perfect for summer fun that everyone* is sure to enjoy.
Black Box Theatre Co.’s THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG runs August 13 to 30, 2025 at Waterfront Theatre, 1412 Cartwright Street, Granville Island. Opening Night is August 14th.
