As Asian Heritage Month kicks off today, Odd Meridian Arts presents ahmm | Asian Heritage Month at Morrow

A four-week festival taking place at Morrow, Odd Meridian’s Richards Street cultural hub in Vancouver’s downtown core, highlights works by Canadian artists from the pan-ethnic Asian diaspora, heroes and anti-heroes whose inquiries abound with elegance and subversion.
A program filled with intimate performances of dance, theatre, poetry, puppetry, drag, in addition to film-screenings, movement and writing workshops. To round out the experience, a selection of Asian confectionery with artisanal hand-made items and iconic Asian snacks. Odd Meridian invites patrons to gather in the Morrow’s unique physical and conceptual space, experiencing artful offerings that stimulate the senses and showcase the creators’ pride in their Asian Heritage.

Contemporary dance work featuring two generations of Chinese Canadian dancers, co-created by Andrea Nann and Jia Yi (Judy) Luo, in collaboration with director Sarah Chase which layers haiku-like duet and solo movements with stories of separation and reunion.
May 9 – 10 | Lee Su-feh and Juolin Lee, Tracking The Whole Beast
Contemporary dance work which invites audiences into an ongoing conversation about how cultural memory is made and remade—a living exchange between bodies, generations, and the unfolding world.
May 14 – 17 | Jaewoo Kang; Shion Skye Carter with elika mojtabaei, Sam San Se
Authored by three artists across disciplines, Sam San Se features a “puppet” extravaganza created and performed by Jaewoo Kang in collaboration with Romi Kim and Rhye McCorkindale, paired with a first-time collaboration between multidisciplinary artist elika mojtabaei
and Shion Skye Carter rooted in childhood, joy, and language.
May 23 | SKIM with Maiden China; Kimmortal, Experimental Sacred
Experimental Sacred is a multi-disciplinary double bill featuring drag artists SKIM and Maiden China in a living duet following what it means to be in their bodies in public and private spheres, followed by a musical filipinx folk-future storytelling set performed by Kimmortal.

A mixed program of poetry, drag and film complimented by a bespoke matcha beverage.
April 26 – May 24 | Sujit Vaidya, Sacred Sacrilegious
Savour the visual treat of a process capsule, featuring video footage, writings and other materials from Bharatanatyam artist Sujit Vaidya’s work.
In addition to live performance, ahmm also presents free all-level dance and writing workshops by Andrea Nann (The Human is a Caring Being), Lee Su-Feh (Spiralling Technologies), elika mojtabaei (Found Poetry).
