Vancouver Island’s acclaimed Chemainus Theatre Festival is returning with a full line-up for its 2022 Mainstage season.
Filled with comedy, music, and stories to inspire and nourish the human spirit, the season kicks off with The 39 Steps, the parody by Patrick Barlow, adapted from the 1915 novel by John Buchan and the 1935 film by Alfred Hitchcock, combines a dash of spy novel drama, film noir and camp comedy of Monty Python.
This summer finds the Mainstage following Classic Country Roads with comedic hosts taking audiences down a country mile to an old-time revue paying tributes to performers of the great of the Grand Ole Opry to Billboard’s Top Country performers
The autumn, the leaves and stage turns the corner to celebrate women in hockey, in Glory, inspirational, triumphant, and incredible true story of the Preston Rivulettes women’s hockey team. Set in 1933, four friends set out to prove to Canada that hockey isn’t just a sport for men.
Glory is followed by more music as the ‘dead ringer for dead singers’ Zachary Stevenson’s chameleon-like talents transform him into a cast of rock legends in Dead Ringer.
Christmas brings the Mainstage a holiday classic with a twist in A Tiny Christmas Carol, this condensed adaptation centres on the joy of connecting and Scrooge moving from self-imposed isolation to community – along with holiday songs and good cheer.
Between the Mainstage season, the Cabaret Series fills the Playbill Dining Room, and stay tuned for web-series Seasiders for the whole family to come to digital screens.
