As Early Music Vancouver (EMV) gets set to launch the 2022 Bach Festival tomorrow, running July 26 – Aug 6, it has also recently announced the line-up for its new 2022-2023 Concert Season.

The EMV 2022-23 Concert Season opens on Friday, September 24, 2022, concerts being presented through to May 26, 2023, at various venues in Vancouver (downtown and west side), North Vancouver and West Vancouver.
EMV’s 53rd season will transport patrons to different musical worlds with artists from Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Canada, the Czech Republic, France, Greece, Italy, Peru, the UK and USA. Renowned pianist Angela Hewitt plays Bach, Brahms and Scarlatti; countertenor Reginald Mobley returns to Vancouver to perform with the Pacific Baroque Orchestra; Ensemble Constantinople performs with En Chordais from Greece in a programme of newly discovered treasures from Byzantine manuscripts, and the BBC’s ‘New Generation Artists,’ Consone Quartet from London, will enthrall with their concert of string quartets by Mozart, Haydn and Fanny Mendelssohn.
Ensemble Cappella Mariana from the Czech Republic along with Constantinople and narrator Bill Richardson will transport listeners to the 17th century Levant while the Breathtaking Collective with soprano Hana Blazikova and cornettist Bruce Dickey will lead the audience on an aural journey that ranges from 1600 to the present day – exploring ways in which the cornetto and human voice can interact and musically entwine.
Ensemble Castor with the recent Juno Award-winning soprano Hélène Brunet will delight audiences with Vivaldi’s Other Seasons and in November, EMV marks the 350th anniversary of the death of German composer Heinrich Schütz with a concert entitled From War to Peace: Heinrich Schütz and His Time. Vancouver favourites Chor Leoni with their off-shoot ensemble The Leonids join EMV for a celebration of Franz Schubert in May.
Festive Cantatas: J.S. Bach Magnificat and the cantata Unser Mund sei voll Lachens (May our mouth be full of laughter) bring joy to the holiday season with two performances in December featuring an all-star ensemble including the Pacific Baroque Orchestra directed by Alexander Weimann joined by sopranos Hélène Brunet and Arwen Myers, Kristina Szabo alto, tenor Jacques-Olivier Chartier and Sumner Thompson bass.
“Through these diverse musical explorations, the richness of our shared human experience will be revealed and celebrated,” says EMV’s Artistic and Executive Director, renowned soprano Suzie LeBlanc.
The lineup for the 2022-23 Concert Season includes 15 concerts in 16 performances offered either singly, or by series subscription. Subscriptions provide purchasers with discounts up to 30 per cent off the single ticket price. Visit earlymusic.bc.ca for details.
