What, you might ask is #GetRAOKT? It’s the Random Acts Of Kindness Tour and it’s ready to get underway.
Vancouverites Calan Breckon and Jessica Shafer are two young people looking to inspire their generation and change the world one act at a time. Avid travellers and activists, the duo have been inspiring locals for years but now they’re taking their show on the road across Canada and the USA. For one year, Calan and Jessica aim to make a difference wherever they can find a need. They will give of themselves, helping disaster relief efforts to aiding local charities and in return, rely on the kindness of others to help keep the tour moving along, backpacking from location to location.
Last night at The Charles Bar the Tour kicked off with a launch party and fundraiser to help get Jessica and Calan on the way to adventure and good deeds.
Calgary is their first destination, where they will assist with flood clean up then head south to Denver enroute to Oklahoma City where they are still recovering from devastating tornados. The Tour gets on the road September 1st but the first Random Act Of Kindness has already taken place; watch what happened when Jessica and Calan surprised another local hero, who always gives of himself, to a special treat.

Follow the tour on Twitter #GetRAOKT and follow Calan @Calan_b and Jessica @JessicaMSchafer
The public can participate too; contribute their own Act Of Kindness by donating to the #GetRAOKT FundMyTravel.com campaign. Alternatively, if you see that the tour is passing through your town get in touch and donate a bed for the night or a meal or show them where they can help out. #GetRAOKT is also about making connections, getting people to know and help their fellow man.
“You can’t change the world in one day but in one day you can change someone’s world” says Calan about their philosophy for the Tour. Wise words for us all to live by! Keep your eye out for these two great individuals to #GetRAOKT in your town.
