Goblin:Oedipus, brings the Goblins, WUG, KRAGVA, and MOOG, back to the Bard on the Beach, Douglas Campbell Theatre, until September 19, for another attempt to understand human theatre.

After discovering the Complete Works of William Shakespeare, the Goblins offered a rendition of Macbeth, intrigued by the Bard’s understanding of their world of witches, faeries, and goblins. This year, they take a look at the ancient Greek text with Sophocles’ Oedipus, as adapted by John Murrell. A Dionysian spectacle full of monsters (The Sphinx), blood, death, suffering, oracles, prophecies, incest, patricide the tale is right up the Goblins’ alley.
Once again, the trio take over the Douglas Campbell Theatre, and with a non-existent 4th wall, they walk amongst and speak directly to the audience – with 18+ language – throughout the show making us an integral part of the show. Despite it’s heaving subject matter, Goblin:Oedipus is non-stop laughter and joy, as we discover WUG, KRAGVA, and MOOG discovering the classic text and acting out all the parts.

The show becomes even more interactive with the addition of a Greek Chorus, made up on audience members. With a new chorus every night, there will be a unique show every performance, with many a hilarious results. This is the type of show you’ll want to see again, and maybe again.
A Spontaneous Theatre creation, the production team include Costume Designer Ralamy Kneeshaw and Associate Lighting Designer John Webber, with Stage Manager Rebecca Mulvihill and Assistant Stage Manager Jenny Kim. Goblin:Oedipus runs until September 19, 2026 sharing the Bard on the Beach, Douglas Campbell Theatre at Senakw / Vanier Park with Antigone.
