James Bond Day, October 5, 2012 marks 50 years since we were first introduced to the debonair and charming spy, James Bond. Even after 5 decades of working for Her Majesty’s Secret Service he somehow still finds a way to woo a new Bond Girl, outsmart a new dastardly megalomaniac super-villain and ultimately save the world.
Along the way there’s definitely been some hits and misses in the film series and along with that some whoaful theme songs, not always does a bad film produce a poor tune. Over the years some of the themes have become hits in their own right with Live & Let Die by Paul McCartney & Wings, Nobody Does It Better from The Spy Who Loved Me by Carly Simon, For Your Eyes Only by Sheena Easton, View To A Kill by Duran Duran and Die Another Day by Madonna all achieving Top 10 status in both the UK and US charts. To commemorate the 50th anniversary and the upcoming theatrical release of Bond’s 23rd outing in Skyfall; the films theme song was released globally. Skyfall performed by Adele takes listeners back to the early days of the series, reminiscent of the classic Shirley Bassey hits; Goldfinger or Diamonds Are Forever, it’s a soft, sultry and slight mysterious track that’s sure to join the ranks of the other Top 10 tunes. Perhaps it will become the first Number 1 on both sides of the pond, Duran Duran’s View To A Kill has hit #1 in the US only.
Have a listen to Skyfall, then tell us your favourite Bond theme.
