JVKE – what tour feels like
The Vogue Theatre
August 3, 2023
American singer-songwriter and social media personality, JVKE, kicked off his first North American tour “what tour feels like” at the Vogue Theatre in Vancouver. For his first ever visit to Canada the singer was supported by Maisy Kay and Hariz.
Before a full house, wearing his comfy pajama pants and hoody, JVKE appeared on stage in a recreation of his bedroom where he created his music. Leading off with this is what falling in love feels like to huge cheers and the audience singing along, the evening of song was off to a great start.
Having made his mark on social media during the COVID-19 lockdowns, it seems fitting for JVKE to make use of great digital visuals on the stage backdrop. As well as an AI smart-stage helping interpret the moods of JVKE’s evolution from falling in love, to break up, to moving on, as told in his first full album “this is what ______ feels like“.
Running through the track-listing of the album plus new songs and covers, the audience, which included a great number of children, kept up the energy as they sang, danced and cheers despite the high heat felt throughout the theatre. Recognizing that much of his audience may have only listened to his music via snippets on social apps, JVKE kept many of the bonus new material condensed catering to short-attention spans. Seeing the children belt out their favourite tracks, alongside their parents, showed the importance of the social apps and sharing, but also how we discover music in today’s digital era.
While the excitement of this first tour will carry him onward, JVKE’s winning on-stage personality is backed up by his ample vocals and musicianship showing he’s more than just a viral trend. While his huge hit Golden Hour was backed by the whole audience, there was also major participation on other tracks like; Angel Pt 1, Upside Down, Ghost Town, Hero, Dandelion and more.
“what tour feels like” tour dates continue across North America, with West Coast date in Seattle-August 4, Portland-August 5, Oakland-August 7, Los Angeles-August 8, Salt Lake City-August 11 coming up in the next week. Find tickets and more show dates online at itsjvke.com
