Killjoy Comedy, the queerer, fatter, ‘diasporic-ier’ documentary series about the future of comedy is back! If you’re looking for a reason to stay in, find laughs without leaving the house as Killjoy Comedy Season 2 returns from Friday July 25th, on OUTtv.com. Spotlighting a new generation of comedians using the stage not just for laughs – but for change.
Created, produced and directed by Vancouver’s own Shana Myara (director of Well Rounded, which Vogue called “uplifting and inspiring”), the six-episode series reclaims the word “killjoy”, often weaponized against those who speak truth to power, and reframes it as a badge of honour for artists who challenge norms, and hilariously demand space in a historically narrow comedy scene.
Killjoy Comedy is stand-up with something to say as six fearless queer and ally comedians take the mic – and the spotlight – as they dismantle the status quo with sharp wit, poignant truths, and zero apologies.
“Because we can all desperately use a laugh right now—that’s why I created Killjoy Comedy,” says Myara. “Each comedian has something profound to say that settles after the big, cathartic laughter. Season 2 comics sharpen their focus around queerness and religion, lesbian baby-making, and new Canadian culture shock. I’m still chuckling with each episode even after the 100th viewing.”

Killjoy Comedy Season 2 features;
Jackie Hoffart: a Crazy8s winning filmmaker and comedian who lives in Vancouver and runs a monthly show called “New Moon Comedy” at the Projection Room above Fox Cabaret.
Marito Lopez: a leading voice in the LatinX community El Salvador-born, Calgary-raised and now based in New York City The two-time Canadian Screen Award nominee is a regular at JFL Canada and many TV appearances.

Joanne Tsung: the host, writer and comedian was recently awarded third place in The Georgia Straight’s “Best of Vancouver” comedian category and is three time co-host of Burnaby Pride.
