Victoria’s Intrepid Theatre is bringing a brand new show to your screens.
From the creative duo Ivan Coyote & Sarah MacDougall, Out of This Blue is an eclectic selection of the songs and stories that emerged from both artists during this pandemic-forced period of stillness and solitude.
Songwriter and musician Sarah MacDougall and writer and storyteller Ivan Coyote met in the green room of a theatre before a show in the summer of 2016, forming a deep and lasting artistic. Since then, they have combined their visions on many projects, including Trader Time, a full-length show complete with a musical score for a six-piece band, which launched to sold-out crowds in 2019.
When the pandemic struck, their usual life on the road turned into a life in lockdown. From her home in London, Ontario, Sarah sat down with a guitar and her computer and began to craft some new songs while Ivan began to answer a backlog of mail and correspondence that had collected while touring.
Inspired by having this time to watch the garden turn green in the spring, then flower and wilt, infused with the longing and loss that social isolation has brought to everyone’s lives, as well touching on matters of the heart, Out of This Blue is an homage to family, friendship, mortality, and the ability of writing and music to connect us all.
