The H.R. MacMillan Space Centre has unveiled The Dome, a new state-of-the-art immersive experience that will redefine entertainment. In collaboration with Volumetric Camera Systems (VCS), the creative team behind the visuals at Anyma’s End of Genesys show at the Las Vegas Sphere, the Space Centre’s new audiovisual experience pushes the boundaries of light, sound and immersion.

The Dome features eight new Christie 4K Cinema projectors create a stunning 10K resolution across the dome with 20,000 watts of Dolby Atmos sound.
From 4:30 to 11pm nightly, The Dome now offers a refreshed evening lineup weaving together wonderous immersive experiences and cosmic perspectives, while daytime and special events in the Planetarium Star Theatre continue to keep space science front and centre.
To launch the experience, The Dome is presenting the legendary Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon 50th Anniversary Show, with visuals by creative director Aubrey Powell. See the entire 42-minute album in 360°, with “Money” cascading and “Time” ticking all around.

The Gordon MacMillan Southam Observatory continues to welcome visitors (by-donation, weather permitting) from 8 PM to 11 PM on Wednesday and Friday evenings, offering tours and stargazing opportunities of the Vancouver night skies though its ½-meter Cassegrain telescope.

August 8th join in as the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre offers the Perseid Meteor Shower Primer, a special evening of expert talks, planetarium shows, and telescope viewing to prepare for the spectacular Perseid meteor shower, which is expected to peak August 12th to 13th this year.
