The Vancouver Foodster 5th Sangria Challenge has wrapped up with the judges’ and public vote results revealing the top vote getters, but those of us who partook in the tasting of the creative libations were the real winners!
From June 2nd-25th the Challenge featured sangria creations from restaurants and distilleries around Vancouver and Squamish. The teams at each location developed their sangria sensations using a variety of liquors including many of their own distillations, along with fruits, sodas, and other mixes.
A trio of judges, including myself, visited each of the locations to score each drink with a maximum of 40 points based on: Overall Taste 20 points, Originality and Uniqueness 10 points, Presentation and Appearance 10 points. When all the scores were tallied, with 110 out of 120 points, the Judges ranked Raincity Distillery’s Raincity Sangria Blanche (pictured right) at the top.
The People’s Choice category was chosen by public vote from visitors to the challenge entrants.
