Picks of the Week – September 6, 2017

We may be past Labour Day weekend but Summer isn’t over yet, let’s see what we can find to keep the season going through these picks of the week

Shakespeare:  Tonight, the contemporary work, Shylock joins the line-up at Bard on the Beach from Sept 6 – 15 while Much Ado About Nothing and The Winter’s Tale, The Merchant of Venice and Two Gentlemen of Verona continue until September 23rd.

Facade: Every evening this week, take a look at the Georgia Street facade of the Vancouver Art Gallery as Facade Festival illuminates the building with works of art created by a new artist each evening, until September 10th.

Fringe: Starting tomorrow, September 7th the Vancouver Fringe Festival brings cutting edge works to the stages and venues around Granville Island until September 17th

Laughs: Thursday at Queen Elizabeth Theatre, stand-up comic, playwright, author and social commentator Lewis Black brings his 49th Parallel Tour to Vancouver.

Art: Vancouver artist David Wilson draws inspiration from Instagram for his newest exhibition “Interrupting the Interface” opening Thursday at Kimoto Gallery, showing until September 30th.

Downs: The BC Lions return to BC Place on Friday night for a game against Montreal Alouettes.

West End: Saturday join in the family-friendly fun at West End Fest, gate open at King George Secondary / West End Community Centre at 11am for a BBQ, entertainment, games and more

Kicks: Saturday at BC Place, Whitecaps FC hope to maintain their potential play off position when they host Real Salt Lake

Pop – Up: The final, free, pop-up party of the Public Disco season comes to Jim Deva Plaza in the West End this Saturday with DJ Heather and more spinning the tunes.

Comedy: Saturday at The Fox Cabaret, comedian Graham Clark kicks off a new monthly night, Quiz Show – part quiz, part comedy, all fun.

Rock: Saturday night at The Imperial, rockers Bear Mountain take to the stage.
