Explore a world of pure imagination as Willy Wonka invites you into his flavourful, fantastical factory in CTORA Production’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, playing October 11 to 27 at the Norman & Annette Rothstein Theatre.
Follow young Charlie Bucket (played by Quinlan McDonald) and four other Golden Ticket winners, as Willy Wonka (played by Daniel Curalli) guides them through his curious confection factory. Expect chocolate waterfalls, mischievous Oompa-Loompas, and a cascade of surprises at every turn in this vibrant and visually stunning production. Whether you’re a fan of Roald Dahl’s original novel or the classic 1971 film, this CTORA production has the magic recipe to bring the story to life like never before.
According to Director Mark Carter, “Our production takes a lot of inspiration from the book and its original illustrations. This relatively new musical beautifully blends the familiar story and classic songs like ‘Candy Man’ and ‘Pure Imagination’ with fresh, clever musical numbers. Whether you’re experiencing the story for the first time or revisiting an old friend, there’s something for everyone in this production.”
From a book by David Greig and music by Marc Shaiman, director Mark Carter, with choreographer Ken Overbey and music director Jeremy Hoffman, continue CTORA’s commitment to excellence in family-friendly theatre with this production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Marc Shaiman’s score, with lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Wittman, is brought to life by a live 8-piece orchestra featuring some of Vancouver’s finest musicians. Musical Director Jeremy Hoffman on keyboard and Assistant Musical Director Monica Sumulong Dumas on bass guitar, lead an ensemble also including guitarist Christian Richardson, drummer Tyler Murray, violinist Kevin McDonnell, trumpeter Justin Kury, keyboardist Livia Cohen, and reed musician Jennifer Innanen.
Presented through a special arrangement with Music Theatre International, this production promises to be an enchanting and unforgettable experience for audiences of all ages.
