Fabulist Theatre brings the World Premiere Workshop of Dim Sum Diaries: Second Helping to The Nest on Granville Island March 27-30.
Inspired by Mark Leiren-Young’s 1991 radio play “Dim Sum Diaries” by CBC Morningside, Second Helping serves as a follow-up in theme but will all new topics and stories.
Dim Sum Diaries: Second Helping is a short-play cycle, based on a mix of real-life interviews and personal experiences that examine the anti-Asian sentiments during COVID-19; the intricacies of being Asian and queer; being a neurodivergent Asian woman; transracial adoption; being biracial; and Chinese Canadian family dynamics.
Written with humour, drama, and a touch of the fantastical by Kevin Chong, Aaron Jan, Dale Lee Kwong, Mark Leiren-Young, Yvette Lu, Minh Ly, Louisa Phung Suk Yee, and Kenneth Tynan. Second Helping features an all-star Chinese Canadian cast including Aurora Chan, Howie Kwan, Mikayla Kwan, Jane Loy, and Kyle Toy directed by Damon Bradley Jang.
Before its run at The Nest join Fabulist Theatre for the Gala Premiere at Chinatown Storytelling Centre on March 22, 2024, an evening reception with dim sum bites, sips auction, and a chance to meet the cast and creative team of this new work, followed by a performance.
