The 19th annual Doors Open Richmond (DOR) presented by Richmond Museum will take place June 6 and 7 with more than 40 partner sites opening their doors to welcome visitors.
Over the course of the weekend, visitors will have the chance to experience the diverse cultural organizations, public facilities, and historical landmarks that form the fabric of Richmond. In addition to self-guided visits, the Richmond Museum will provide free bus tours of four different routes around the city.

“Every June, Doors Open Richmond provides a spotlight on what makes the city so special by bringing its vibrant character to life for the nearly 300,000 people who call it home, including myself,” says Bilan Hassan, Chair of the Richmond Museum Society. “Richmond is shaped by a rich mix of cultures, unique perspectives, and lived experiences. The event celebrates that diversity by inviting the public to connect with the people and places that define the community, including business leaders who share their unique experiences. Visitors can explore unique foods, interactive museums, enjoy cultural performances, and step inside faith-based institutions that reflect the city’s global character. Attendees can also meet the volunteers and local businesses behind the event and discover ways to get involved. Doors Open offers a welcoming, behind-the-scenes look at what makes Richmond a dynamic hidden gem, so come check it out!”
Highlights from this year’s program include: Alexandra District Energy Utility, offering a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the city’s geothermal energy system; the Richmond Potters Club, which lifts the veil on how to create ceramic works; and London Farm, a four-acre historic site along the south arm of the Fraser River that tells the story of farming in Richmond from 1880 to 1930.
The Doors Open Richmond free bus tours will continue again this year with routes including; The Sacred Spaces tour visits different places of worship, for those interested in learning more about religious and cultural practices. This year’s tour stops at the Eastern Catholic Church, Lingyen Mountain Temple, and Nanaksar Gurdwara Gursikh Temple on Saturday; and India Cultural Centre of Canada – Gurdwara Nanak Niwas, Richmond Jamia Mosque, and Minoru Chapel on Sunday.
The Discover Doors Open tour introduces visitors to sites that showcase different facets of Richmond. The tour will stop at The Sharing Farm, Alexandra District Energy Utility, and BC Emergency Health Services Station 269 on Saturday. Stops will be made at LuLu Island Winery, Marion Webber Art, and Sea Island Heritage Society on Sunday. Registration for bus tours is open now, on a first-come, first-served basis.

In addition to the in-person program, visitors can learn more about the city through two online videos, released and screened at the Richmond Cultural Centre Annex Lounge in the week leading up to the event. One of the videos will profile Mary Point, a member of the Musqueam Indian Band who will speak about the history of her family in the city now known as Richmond. The other video will feature the Philippine Cultural Arts Society of British Columbia and celebrate their heritage by sharing the dance and music of the Philippines.
While most programs are available on a walk-in basis, some will require advance registration. Visitors can find out more and plan their Doors Open experience at richmondmuseum.ca/doors-open.
