Ellie Goulding – Venue – April 10, 2011
Fresh off her North American television debut Thursday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Ellie Goulding had the sold out crowd at Venue anxiously waiting for her Vancouver debut. Coming on stage to chants of “El-lie! El-lie!” she immediately started beating her drum and went right into “Under The Sheets”, backed by an energetic three piece backing band, and the energy carried on from there. Promoting the recent North American release of her award winning album “Lights“, Ellie’s 60 minute set had everything; high energy pop, dance, rock and soft soulful ballads.
If looking stunning and sounding terrific wasn’t enough to win anyone over, Ellie effervescent personality shone through even when singing…you can’t help but love her! Her interaction with the crowd was sure to keep many of the fans thinking “we’d be best friends” as I’d heard a couple of them exclaim earlier in the evening. A little explanation of some of the songs or little asides about her background and career gave a glimpse into the life of Ellie, a self proclaimed British country girl. Perhaps knowing they were longing to, she encouraged the audience to sing along on some of the songs, especially on “Your Song” the audience was more audible than Ellie. Leaving the audience wanting more, she now embarks on the last leg of her North American tour, heading down the West Coast before a spot on the Coachella Music Festival line-up.
