Vancouver Urban Winery was the setting for Food Talks Volume 4 a great evening of food industry expert speakers and networking with other local food ethusiasts organized by VanFoodster.com.
Located two blocks off Gastown in the historic heart of Vancouver’s Railtown, the 7,700 square foot venue was one of the highlights of the evening. The experience begins as you walk through the ornately carved 12 foot high doorway, stepping over the threshold a grand stone fireplace appears before you surrounded by comfortable sofas. Then you look to the left and a wall of casks catches your eyes, on the opposite side of the room 4 huge stainless steel tanks are holding more wine. The urban winery is the first of its kind in Vancouver, a tasting bar where guests can explore BC Wines on tap as well as providing a unique special events space. Alongside the tasting bar sits a boutique wine shop full of local items, wine merchandise, artisan foods and beverages……and plenty of wine!
Beside the tasting bar and shop the Winery is home to FreshTAP, a sister company that specializes in packaging wine into stainless steel kegs for wine-on-tap service. The company develops partnerships with local and international wine producers then importing, packaging and distributing them to the bar and restaurant industry. This week the company’s house brand Roaring Twenties Wine is bottling a Sauvignon Blanc 2011 and a Malben 2011.
Stop by for a tasting tour soon and try one of the revolving wines on tap. The Vancouver Urban Winery, at 55 Dunlevy Street, is open to the public Monday to Wednesday from 11am – 6pm, Thursday and Friday 11am to 9pm, weekend are reserved for private functions.
