As Vancouver wrapped another exciting HSBC Canada Sevens tournament, which saw a best ever, Bronze Medal, result for Team Canada, it was announced that even more world class rugby is on the way.
Four of the world’s top national rugby nations—the New Zealand All Blacks XV, the Flying Fijians, USA join hosts Team Canada in the inaugural Halloween Rugby Weekend, this October at BC Place Stadium.
The games will feature the newly formed All Blacks XV squaring off against the Flying Fijians on Halloween night and Team Canada taking to the pitch against their North American rivals Team USA on Friday the 30th October.
The Vancouver event is the first leg of a three-city world tour by the All Blacks XV team. Buildings on the wildly successful Canada Sevens tournament, also staged at BC Place, which saw a record attendance for Canadian rugby on Saturday, and hopefully a successful Olympic Sevens run by both Team Canada Men & Women’s teams, the Halloween Rugby Weekend will bring some sporting excitement to the dark autumn days and another reason to get out the costumes and dress up for rugby at BC Place.
Two national-team players—All Black XV Nathan Harris and Team Fiji’s Ben Volavola—were in attendance at the Canada 7s tournament and are excited to compete in front of Vancouver fans this October.
“Vancouver is a great city and BC Place an exciting venue. I know the All Blacks XV will love playing here. This would be an awesome way for rugby fans to come out and celebrate Halloween”, commented Nathan Harris.
“We’ve seen fans go crazy for the Canada 7s in Vancouver and we know they will be equally excited about the Halloween Rugby Weekend,” said Ben Volavola. “It will be a big occasion for the players to entertain such a fun and lively crowd. They love their rugby.”
“We have a rich history of hosting international rugby here in Vancouver, most notably with the annual HSBC Canada Sevens. Through the work of our Sport Hosting Vancouver partnership, we are proud to be hosting the inaugural Halloween Rugby Weekend in 2020,” said Michelle Collens of Sport Hosting Vancouver. “We look forward to working with our partners to build a new tradition over Halloween.”
