Jazz Impresario Cory Weeds brings a weekend of Jazz to The Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, February 4-5.
Jazz @ The Bolt brings a line-up of renowned artists from across Canada and around the world to join the best of Vancouver’s talent for one amazing weekend.
Jazz @ The Bolt welcomes over 25 groups and soloists performing during the day and into the evenings, all under one roof at Burnaby’s premiere cultural venue.
“We’re thrilled to bring Jazz @ The Bolt back to the Shadbolt, live and in person again this year!”, said Weeds. “The vibe at our last gathering was incredibly joyous and celebratory despite COVID restrictions. In 2023, with full-capacity audiences and an even stronger lineup, the event is sure to be better than ever.”
An indoor festival experience, (with real chairs!) is a perfect weekend for fans of great music. Jazz fans can roam from room to room to hear some of everything, or settle into one room and enjoy the full sets.
Weeds continues, “This year’s programming features a varied and extraordinarily talented roster that includes a broad diversity of new, established and veteran artists. There is so much to be excited about, but I’m particularly looking forward to having fellow impresario, pianist Spike Wilner here in the city with one of my favorite saxophonists, Jesse Davis. I’m also delighted to present pianist Miki Yamanaka and her group as well as the brilliant singer, Lezlie Harrison. Much gets made about the international talent that we bring in but, as always, it’s great to be able to showcase the incredible talent that graces Vancouver stages year-round. The local musicians are what create the fabric of a scene and there are many phenomenally talented musicians here.”
Jazz @ The Bolt audiences can expect the following:
Saturday, February 4th is headlined by alto saxophonist Jesse Davis with The Spike Wilner Trio and vocalist Lezlie Harrison and her group. And, in keeping with tradition, Jazz @ The Bolt, once again features a large ensemble. This year, the Vancouver Jazz Orchestra performs with a special guest, the extraordinary tenor saxophonist, Seamus Blake.
Sunday, February 5th showcases performances by pianist Miki Yamanaka with Mark Turner and The Generations Quartet featuring the daughter/father combo of clarinetist Virginia MacDonald and tenor saxophonist Kirk MacDonald.
In addition, Jazz @ The Bolt has teamed up with Tim Reinert of Infidels Jazz to present a number of emerging artists over the event’s two days, introducing audiences to some real up-and-comers on the scene!
Other highlights include Sienna Dahlen/Bill Coon, the James Danderfer Sextet, Indo-Jazz Fusion project Raagaverse led by Shruti Ramani, André Lachance’s Quator, and more!
