Jessica Tyler – Commodore Ballroom – January 9, 2013
Best known for her roll of Jenna Middleton on MuchMusic’s Degrassi, Jessica Tyler is showing that she is a triple threat. In addition to acting on the hit show her character is also a singer/songwriter, often picking up the guitar. Jessica is following in her own footsteps so to speak and taking her music on the road.
For the rest of January, Miss Tyler is playing live across Canada in an opening slot on Nelly Furtado’s Spirit Indestructible Tour. Catching the second night of the tour at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, the audience was treated to a 20 minute acoustic set by the effervescent 19 year old. Her delicate voice had a hard time over the chatter from the early and thin audience but she held her own in the tough room, playing to the core group of attentive fans at centre stage. While still a young woman, she is a seasoned entertainer, having played on Degrassi for 3 seasons. Currently recording her own debut album, she performed a few of the songs already released as part of the Degrassi soundtrack. Later in the evening she returned to the stage to give a glimpse of her ‘dancing’ skills as she backed up Nelly Furtado on a cheeky rendition of ‘Parking Lot’, showing the audience there is indeed a triple threat in the wings.
