The festive season continues when The Royal Canadian Theatre Company’s annual holiday pantomime, Knotted: Rapunzel’s Story, comes to Massey Theatre January 3-5, 2025

Rapunzel (Jodie Aguinaldo) has been locked away in her tower for 18 years… until now. Princeton and Herr Brusch are happy to keep her at Barber Academy but the bad guys are determined to keep her locked away. Throw in Dame Frau Fringe’s questionable culinary creations for the big graduation feast, a fearless crew of new friends, plenty of toe-tapping tunes, cheeky jokes, and dazzling local talent, and you’ve got yourself a hair-raising good time!
Directed by Kerri Norris, written by Crystal Weltzin with music by Argel Monte de Ramos, Knotted: Rapunzel’s Story is full of all the traditional audience participation and pantomime silliness that will surely bring the whole family to fits of fun and laughter. In typical panto fashion, the principle boy is played by a female performer – Abigail Walkner plays Princeton – and the Dame is played by a male performer – Stephen Elcheshen plays Dame Frau Fringe.
To make the theatre a more welcoming space for those with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, autism, anxiety or anything that may make seeing a live performance difficult, The Royal Canadian Theatre Company offers half-price tickets for Relaxed Performance, with ASL Interpretation, on Saturday January 4 at 6:30pm. The performers come out before the show to quickly introduce any scare characters to limit any anxious reactions, the audience lights are dimmed instead of dark, music and sound are quieter and the doors to the theatre are open if you feel the need to leave the space at any time.
Audiences attending the Saturday, January 4, 2pm or 6:30pm, and Sunday, January 5, 2pm performances can gather in the lobby after the shows to meet the cast and collect signatures.
Knotted: Rapunzel’s Story is a perfect family outing to wrap up the school break, and RCTC offers family four-pack tickets for just $119 (plus s/c). Single tickets and bundles are available from the TicketsNW box office at 604-521-5050 or ticketsnw.ca
