This year, a beautiful tradition from Lyon, France has made its way to Vancouver, Lumière Festival illuminates Yaletown and The West End this December 11 – 13.
Finding inspiration in the memories of Fête des Lumières visits of his youth, Lumière Festival Vancouver Society founding director Stephane Mouttet says “It has been my dream to bring the Lumière Festival to Vancouver where we can create a sense of community and connectedness through the magic of holiday lights.”
The two neighbourhoods of Yaletown and The West End have teamed up with Lumière Festival to help Mr Mouttet realize this dream and connect the communities. Expanding on already existing cherished illuminations like St Paul’s Hospital’s Lights of Hope, spectators can look forward to live entertainment and activities throughout the neighbourhoods’ streets. The 2014 Festival features the Comox Jam light parade down the Comox-Helmcken Greenway, free ice skating at the West End Community Centre, a special appearance by Santa Claus and Mrs. Drag Claus at the Denman Place Mall, and a carnivalesque light and performance spectacle at Yaletown’s Bill Curtis Square. A free Lumiere Trolley helps to connect it all throughout the three days.
