Boney M. featuring Liz Mitchell – December 8, 2019 – The Vogue Theatre
The Vogue Theatre was packed with people ready and waiting to have a good time as Liz Mitchell, the original singer with Boney M., took to the stage. Diving right in to the hits, the singalong started right from the first note, of ‘Sunny’, to the last, of ‘Gotta Go Home’.
It didn’t take long for the audience to be on their feet, with just a few stragglers needing a bit of encouragement from the singer. As Ms Mitchell prompted the fans to clap and stomp their feet so we could all feel the ‘vibe’, and indeed there was a vibe. With a personality as big as her voice, the Jamaican-born singer, literally and figurative drew the audience to the stage. Bringing a number of fans, probably more than she expected, to the stage to dance along to ‘Rasputin’. Graciously allowing them to hug, sing and speak to her, whilst keeping on with singing the 70’s hit song. Then, when discussing her Jamaican home town, she made note that a number of relatives now live in Vancouver, inviting them all onstage to sing along with ‘Rivers of Babylon’.
The set ran just over an hour but packed so much music and love into the time that it was hard to imagine anyone left the theatre unsatisfied. With Canada being one of their best-selling markets, it’s not a surprise so many fans were passionately invested in the concert, groups of fans came together to dress-up, dance, sing and bond over their dream concert.
