At a gala evening hosted by actor Todd Talbot, Metro Theatre celebrated the soon to close season and announced its upcoming 2024-2025 season.
After board members welcomed guests and the announcement of Volunteer Awards, presenting Sean Ullmann with a Lifetime Contribution Award and the newly renamed Sean Ullmann Volunteer of the Year Award presented to John Carr.
The evening included performances teasing what’s coming for the new season which includes 8 productions including slapstick and dark comedies, gothic horrors, murder mysteries, smash musicals and of course, Metro Theatre’s famed Holiday Season Pantomime.
The five plays and three musicals coming to the Metro Theatre stage in the 2024-2025 season include:
The Play That Goes Wrong: September 13-October 5, 2024
In this long running West-End farcical, slapstick comedy we find The Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society battle against all odds to make it through to their final curtain call for Murder at Haversham Manor with hilarious consequences.
The Woman In Black: October 11-November 2, 2024
A perfect production for Halloween season, feel the thrills as this remount of Bernard Cuffling’s acclaimed stage adaptation of Susan Hill’s arresting ghost story comes dramatically alive, or is it undead?
Billy Bishop Goes To War: November 8-November 30, 2024
One of the finest Canadian musicals, the one-man tour-de-force—stars Metro favourite Damon Calderwood as Billy Bishop, accompanied by pianist Chris Robson—recounts the background, triumphs and horrors encountered during “the war to end all wars” by the World War One flying ace.
Cinderella – A Traditional British Pantomime: December 13, 2024-January 5, 2025
From the team behind last year’s SINBAD!, this year’s family festive feature is the classic Cinderella filled with all the traditional British pantomime fun including the Good Fairy, Metro’s Demon, a head-turning Dame, exciting musical numbers and all the comedy magic expected from the Metro Panto.
Sinners: January 24-February 15, 2025
In Canada’s most produced playwright, Norm Foster’s first play, the hilarious comedy finds a furniture store owner having an affair with the local minister’s wife but the unexpected return home by the minister complicates the situation and exposes an intricate web of deceit.
And Then There Were None: February 28-March 22, 2025
In Agatha Christie’s darkest and best-selling mystery ten strangers are summoned to a remote isolated island, the sense of dread and tension rises as they realise they’re each marked for murder.
Arsenic and Old Lace: April 4-April 26, 2025
A popular black-comedy classic, Arsenic and Old Lace tells the story of Abby and Martha, two murderous old women who poison people and then have their nephew—who thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt—bury the bodies!
Mamma Mia!: May 9-May 31, 2025
As the weather warms, take a trip to the Greek Isles backed by the irresistible music of ABBA, best friends, family and a love story times three, the global musical smash dances across the Metro’s stage to close the season.
