Moonlight Magic: A Mid-Autumn Celebration is the second of Gateway Theatre’s 2024/2025 season Special Events. This Mid-Autumn Festival, taking place September 14th at Gateway Theatre Studio A and Minoru Park invites patrons of all ages to experience a magical evening of Moonlight Magic celebrating this important event of the lunar calendar.
The annual Mid-Autumn event at Gateway Theatre celebrates the timeless tradition of family, heritage, and cultural beauty, with a unique focus on passing down traditions through generations.
“We are honoured to host these family-friendly holiday celebrations for the community of Richmond and beyond,” says Barbara Tomasic, Executive Artistic Director, Gateway Theatre. “Past Attendees have enjoyed the inclusive atmosphere and playful programming and Moonlight Magic: Mid-Autumn Celebration will be no different. The procession from the theatre into Minoru Park will be a magical way to celebrate the evening.”
Lanterns and mooncakes play a significant part in the tradition of Mid-Autumn and during the festivities Attendees of all ages will be able to craft their own while enjoying mooncakes. Families will have the chance to learn the significance of lantern-making while crafting their own masterpieces together, then carry their handmade lantern as they join in a breathtaking procession into Minoru Park.

As the sun sets, attendees will be immersed in an enchanting concert sung by the talented Manila-born Mezzo-soprano Renee Fajardo accompanied by guitarist Mark Richardson. Enjoy moonlight melodies like Moondance, Memory (from Cats), and Habanera (aria from the opera “Carmen”), as well as other well-known songs from the musical theatre and opera repertoire.
