Metro Theatre starts the year with a presentation of Sinners, a rarely produced, delightful farce by Canada’s most-produced playwright, Norm Foster, January 24th to February 15th.
Renowned for his sharp wit and relatable characters, Foster brings his signature comedic touch to this hilarious tale of secrets, scandal, and side-splitting escapades.

Sinners delves into the chaotic life of furniture store owner Peter. When Peter is caught in a compromising position with a minister’s wife, what ensues is a whirlwind of misunderstandings, rapid-fire dialogue, and laugh-out-loud moments. Described by Foster as a “romp” in the vein of classic British farces, Sinners promises audiences an evening of wit and laughter.
Foster shared his inspiration for this play, “It was my first attempt at writing a farce, inspired by my admiration for British farces and the talented actor Ian Deacon, who starred in the original production. The pacing is everything in a play like this. Keep it moving, keep the laughs coming—that’s the key.”
When asked about his enduring appeal as a playwright, Foster attributed it to his commitment to authenticity: “I write about real people—people you know, people I know. Audiences connect with that. They see themselves and their lives reflected on stage, and that’s what keeps them coming back.”
Metro Theatre has a long-standing tradition of staging Foster’s plays, delighting audiences with his warm, character-driven stories. “Alongside our British farces, Agatha Christie mysteries, and annual Pantos, Norm Foster’s work has become a cornerstone of our programming,” said Metro’s Marketing Manager, Jordy Matheson. “Sinners combine elements that will appeal both to our long standing patrons and to those audiences who joined us for the first time for The Play That Goes Wrong in September.”
With over 60 plays to his name, Norm Foster is celebrated as one of Canada’s most prolific and beloved playwrights. Known for his comedic genius and relatable storytelling, Foster’s works have been performed extensively across North America and beyond. Despite his success, Foster remains humble, noting that his plays resonate because they’re “written for the audience”—a collaboration he deeply values.
Norm Foster’s Sinners takes the stage from January 24 to February 15, 2025 at Metro Theatre, 1370 Marine Drive SW. Find tickets and showtimes online at metrotheatre.com/sinners
