Tuesday evening at Granville Island Brewing Co. PuSh International Performing Arts Festival gathered Board members, its team, performers and supporters for the debut of its upcoming line-up.
Once again PuSh Festival will bring the city a line up of hot entertainment to the cold winter nights of January 19 – February 5, 2023. Gabrielle Martin, Director of Programming has curated a program filled with timely, honest, politically active works of dance, music, theatre and multimedia productions.
The 2023 PuSh Festival line-up features 20 works from 12 countries, with six world premieres and ten North American premieres, dedicated to creative risk-taking and dynamic interdisciplinary collaboration. , The Festival will present works from the United States, United Kingdom, Zimbabwe, Belgium, South Africa, South Korea, France, Argentina, Bulgaria, India, and Finland, on top of a line-up of Canadian works.
“I was inspired by what can be achieved within community, as our partners were fundamental in connecting Festival artists to new and returning audiences,” Martin says of her time with PuSh over the past year. “We returned to our mandate of facilitating transformative experiences through live performance and, buoyed by this experience, it has been an honour to curate the 2023 Festival. We are prioritizing innovative works that have a sense of necessity; that wake us up or offer new dreams for the disenchanted. Delivering a festival takes a community, and PuSh continues to centre collaboration.”
From the modern circus of Race Horse Company’s O’DD at Vancouver Playhouse, to the theatre of Ontroerend Goed’s Are we not drawn onward to a new erA at Frederic Wood Theatre – UBC, or Never Twenty One from Smail Kanouté at Scotiabank Dance Centre and Joby Burgess’ A Percussionist’s Songbook at The Orpheum Annex, PuSh fills the city with entertainment. As well, look for performances at The Anvil Centre in New Westminster, Roundhouse Centre in Yaletown, Vancouver Public Library – Central Branch, Lobe Studios in Strathcona, Performance Works on Granville Island or in your living room Online.
