Carousel Theatre for Young People (CTYP), is planning to start its 2022 Season of live productions in March, returning to in-person performances at the Waterfront Theatre on Granville Island. The spring 2022 shows are an extension of the 2021/22 Season that began with the Teen Shakespeare Program’s sold-out production of The Tempest performed live outdoors this past summer in Ron Basford Park.
First on stage, March 2-20, 2022 is Gruff!, CTYP’s presentation of the Puente Theatre (Victoria) musical, a timely parable about immigration, friendship, sharing, and individuality featuring goats and trolls. Following on from March 31 to April 23 is Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls written by Dave Deveau, follows a family’s journey accepting their son’s gender identity. Finally, The Code runs May 10 to 14, presented by Green Thumb Theatre, offers a murky teenage drama about the fine line between friendship and romance.
After almost two years without being able to invite audiences into the Waterfront Theatre for live theatre, the organization now led by new Co-Artistic Director & Managing Directors Dave Deveau and Jennica Grienke. has gone through some changes. Looking toward a bright future, CTYP is eager to welcome its patrons back in the new year for a season of live, heartfelt, and whimsical family theatre.
“Everyone at Carousel is beyond excited to finally share our future plans and productions with our patient community. We remain committed to producing and showcasing theatre for young audiences on Granville Island.” says Co-Artistic Director & Managing Directors Dave Deveau & Jennica Grienke
