Lincoln Centre meets Vancouver’s Orpheum Theatre as the Coastal Jazz & Blues Society presents “Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis” for a one-night-only performance on Tuesday, October 10 at The Orpheum.
The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO), featuring 15 of today’s finest jazz soloists and ensemble players, has been the Jazz at Lincoln Center – aka the House of Swing – resident orchestra since 1988. Under Music Director Wynton Marsalis, the group’s compositions and arrangements include works by Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Fletcher Henderson, Thelonious Monk, Mary Lou Williams, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Goodman, and Charles Mingus, as well as new music from the group’s unrivaled collection of world-renowned composers and arrangers.

Audiences can look forward to an all-Wynton program for this Orpheum performance as the JLCO pays tribute to a living legend.
Called “the modern day Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller and Gerry Mulligan all in one” by All About Jazz, Wynton Marsalis, is a legendary trumpeter, composer and bandleader, has had a tremendous impact on the genre, with achievements including nine Grammy Awards and a Pulitzer Prize.
His work as a musician, composer, and educator is motivated by his belief in jazz as a role model for democratic activity and a lens that brings understanding to American culture.

Coastal Jazz has a long history with Marsalis, with a relationship going back to the early years of the non-profit Organization – British Columbia’s largest not-for-profit music presenter.
