The TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival returns for its its 36th edition this summer from Friday, June 24th to Sunday, July 3rd at a variety of venues around the city.
The Coastal Jazz & Blues Society has made a host of schedule announcements with still more to come before the festival gets underway next month.
Included performance mentioned so far included sessions by Cécile McLorin Salvant on June 27th and GoGo Penguin on June 28th at Vancouver Playhouse at 600 Hamilton Street. Three-time GRAMMY award-winning artist Lucinda Williams performs Saturday, July 2 at Queen Elizabeth Theatre
“Stay tuned over the coming weeks for more exciting shows,” says Nina Horvath, Executive Director. “We’ve booked over 140 performances for the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival, and are looking forward to bringing the festival back to in-person events after the past two years of COVID-19 event cancellations and programming changes.”
The Jazz at Pyatt Hall series offers eight performances at Pyatt Hall, 843 Seymour Street, the festival’s home of straight-ahead, bebop, and modern jazz. All shows feature both an early 7:30 pm show, followed by a 9:30 pm late show:

- JUNO and National Jazz Award-winning trumpeter/composer Brad Turner Quintet featuring Mike Murley Friday, June 24
- Winner of the 2020 Rising Stars Jazz Award, Saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins plays Monday, June 27
- Peggy Lee Band premiers new music alongside selections from its back-catalogue, Thursday, June 30
- A relentless force on the Vancouver jazz scene, the tenor saxophonist and impresario, Cory Weeds Little Big Band with Special Guest Carl Allen bring big band sizzle on Saturday, July 2
The Performance Works Series features an eclectic mix of nine ticketed 7:30 pm performances at Performance Works, 1218 Cartwright Street, Granville Island
The Performance Works Series schedule includes the following performances and dates:
- Adria Kain and Janette King share stories of resilience and self-actualization on Friday, June 24
- PIQSIQ Inuit throat singing traditions and KEE AVIL’s guitar, voice and electronics performance on Saturday, June 25
- One of “jazz’s breezier virtuosos,” Julian Lage Trio, featuring Scott Colley and Dave King, performs on Sunday, June 26
- Expressive and deeply compelling Youn Sun Nah is featured on Monday, June 27
- Performance Works sees thrilling new vibraphonist Joel Ross Good Vibes on Wednesday, June 29
- Jazz Times critics call Samara Joy “Best New Artist.” Hear her perform as Samara Joy with Pasquale Grasso Trio on Thursday, June 30
- Sam Tudor + Kandle, Featuring Kendel Carson and Debra-Jean Creelman, bring great new energy, outlaw country and rock ‘n roll to the evening on Friday, July 1 – Canada Day
- As part of Granville Island Jazz, The Blue and Gold and Great Aunt Ida perform on Saturday, July 2
- Les Filles De Illighadad closes the Performance Works series on Sunday, July 3 with their sublime sound from the Republic of Niger in West Africa
Coastal Jazz has also revealed its new venue, Ocean Art Works Pavilion, 1531 Johnston Street, Granville Island. The Pavilion will be transformed into an outdoor jazz venue with a licensed bar and late-night evening DJ sets, Ocean Art Works offers ticketed ($10 at the door) and free events throughout the festival.
The festival also invites audiences to its Free Jazz Around Town schedule for two stages at the Vancouver Art Gallery (750 Hornby Street), David Lam Park (1300 Pacific Blvd), Performance Works (1218 Cartwright Street), Ocean Art Works (1531 Johnston Street), The Innovation Series at The Ironworks (235 Alexander Street) and free events at various venues with the North Shore Jazz Series.

We’re also excited about our new Ocean Art Works venue – it’s sure to be the hot spot of this year’s festival.”
The 2022 TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival takes place with in-person performances from Friday, June 24 to Sunday, July 3, 2022, with events and programming scheduled for venues around the city.
