The Cultch and ZeeZee Theatre are finally airing out the Dirty Laundry at York Theatre, until June 25th. Australia’s Brief Factory International has come from Down Under to show off their down underwear and whole lot more!

Delayed for years due to pandemic restrictions, now that Dirty Laundry has arrived on our shores the Briefs Boys led by ringleader Shivannah (aka: Briefs Factory Artistic Director Fez Faanana) have much to get off their chests…and other regions of their athletic bodies. Bringing together circus, drag, dance, burlesque, music, comedy and throwing in some topical commentary, Dirty Laundry titillates and entertains the (18+) audiences. Segments like juggling, hula hoops, trapeze, tumbling in the hands of another troupe could be rather mundane, but Dirty Laundry puts them in the spin cycle and tumble-dry for a fresh-washed, elevated and sexy show.
While it’s easy to be distracted by the beautiful bodies on display, glitzy costumes, make-up, hair and heels, plus some full-frontal nudity, the troupe’s act is firmly based in their talents. Dale Woodbridge-Brown brings a bit of sideshow entertainment with his sword-swallowing and more. Louis Biggs clowns around with his juggling talents and a flash of his other ample asset set the tone of what was to come.

Mark ‘Captain Kidd’ Winmill flaming hula hoops take skill on its own but the burlesque-star’s camp comedy set in a wig and heels created an anything-might-happen moment. With Luke Hubbard (Nastia) and Dylan Rodrigeuz (Serenity) dancing and acrobatics in drag giving new meaning to gymnast’s tuck. Brett Rosengreen cleans up the show with a sultry, soapy, bubbly, boy-lesque set.
In a show like Dirty Laundry, the audience is an integral part of the evening, not just keeping their attention but keeping them engaged and interacting with the performance. The applause, cheers and whoops feed the performers making it a mutually beneficial creation – the more we give, the more we get. Vancouver audiences will get a lot of the Brief Boys as Dirty Laundry continues at The Cultch York Theatre until June 25, the longest stop on their first Canadian tour, having first made one-night stops in Medicine Hat and Vernon before moving on to Quebec City June 29-July 1 and Montreal July 6-16. In addition to the 18+ Dirty Laundry shows, The Cultch and ZeeZee Theatre are also presenting Brats Carnival, Brief Factory International’s all-ages, family friendly show for two afternoons of sensational circus and clowning around on June 17 and 24 also at The York.
