Gwen Stefani – Rogers Arena – August 25, 2016
This week Gwen Stefani wrapped up the Summer leg of her This Is What The Truth Feels Like Tour. The penultimate show was in Vancouver, and along with tour-mate Eve, the pair brought 20 years of hits to Rogers Arena.
Eve opened the night with an energetic set of a dozen of her hits. Backed up with a quartet of dancers, the actress/rapper got the early arriving audience warmed up and no one was asking “Who’s That Girl” once she was done. Eve’s short 30 minute set left the audience wanting more, but they would get more when she returned to collaborate with Gwen Stefani in the midst of her headlining set.
Between No Doubt and solo tracks, Gwen Stefani has two decades of back catalogue to assemble her set list along with her current This Is What The Truth Feels Like album. Ms Stefani cruised through her hits from No Doubt classics like Don’t Speak, Just A Girl, Underneath It All, Hella Good, and It’s My Life to contemporary solo numbers Wind It Up, Cool, Harijuku Girls, Used To Love You. Eve rejoined the stage for Let Me Blow Ya Mind and Rich Girl.
The singer and The Voice judge kept the set moving through peaks and valleys of simple pop ballads to bouncing ska tune and energetic dance tracks. Smartly engaging with the audience to build energy and bringing a few audience members on to the stage for selfies and hugs. The backing dancers kept up the pace during Gwen’s costume changes and the video montage on the screens brought up-to-date images and videos, the memories evoked by some of the original videos showed how Gwen Stefani’s music and style is ageless.
While the summer leg of the This Is What The Truth Feels Like Tour has wrapped stay tuned for Autumn shows near you.
