Over the last 3 summers, Keys to the Streets has become a popular addition to the streetscape as painted pianos grace the sidewalks for anyone to play.
Monday, July 11th a line-up of local artists will fill the atrium at Woodward’s with music for the inaugural Keys to the Streets: Woodwards Summer Jam Session a celebration in support of the piano program.
Hosted by Westbank, the event will raise funds to care for the pianos placed around the city plus one traveling piano. The event will also introduce a new piano – the Imagine piano – inspired by John Lennon’s song, Imagine and painted by local First Nations artist, Zola. Artists scheduled to perform include; Willa, Dan Moxon of Bend Sinister, The Ruffled Feathers and Colour the Wild.
During the Keys to the Streets: Woodward’s Summer Jam Session, the artists will christen the piano by putting it through its paces, and look out for a surprise celebrity appearance to wrap up the event. In addition to local music, several Vancouver food trucks will participate by parking outside the venue and donating part of their proceeds to Keys to the Streets.
Keys to the Street: Jam Session gets underway at 5:30pm Monday July 11th at The Woodwards Atrium. The event is open to the public by donation (suggested minimum $5) attendees are encouraged to register and make their donation in advance on Eventbrite.
