
Celebrate the Mid-Autum Festival with Light Up Chinatown! a free two-day outdoor community events, September 10-11, 2022. As we welcome the Harvest Moon, Chinatown brings together the community for a free celebration weekend featuring live entertainment, food trucks, lights, lanterns, colourful decorations, dragons and dancing. Co-hosts the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation, Vancouver Chinatown Business Improvement Area Society, Vancouver Chinatown Merchants Association, Chinese Cultural Centre, and Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, welcome guests to explore the neighbourhood’s merchants and restaurants to find special offers and collaborations.
Dr Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden offers its own program of Mid-Autumn day and evening ticketed events, to supplement the free events in the neighbourhood.
Following the success of 2021’s Taste of Chinatown, The Chinese Restaurant Awards has curated another exciting self-guided culinary walking tour of Chinatown for diners to explore must-try items and shop for unique, specialty offerings from local merchants and restaurants.
Centered on the 500 block of Columbia Street and surrounding streets, Light Up Chinatown! begins Saturday September 10th at 11am, with activities until 9pm, then return for more fun on Sunday September 11th from 11am to 6pm.
Visitors to Light Up Chinatown! can expect to find live entertainment throughout the weekend, including live performances from Goh Ballet, Marie Hui, the Madison Reunion Band, and Maestro Ken Hsieh with violinist Ken Lin. As well a Saturday night salsa dance party with DJ Kubanito spinning Latin music will keep the street alive as the moon rise adds its own illumination.
Eat your way through Chinatown and explore exclusive offers and promotions from legacy & new businesses. Explore the Taste of Chinatown, self-guided tasting tour and stop to find the unique foodie options the chefs and eateries have in store. Of course, there’s also a selection of fan favourite food trucks including Takenaka, Salty’s Lobster Shack, and Tornado Potato.
Families will find plenty to keep everyone entertained at the Kids’ Zone for balloon twisting, face painting, arts & crafts and more!
Of course, it couldn’t be called Light Up Chinatown! if there wasn’t lights and lanterns to celebrate the mid-Autumn Festival throughout the streets of Chinatown come to life from day to night.
