In just a few weeks, the 9th Annual Barney Bentall & The Grand Cariboo Opry Show hits the stage at the Vogue Theatre on Saturday, November 22, 2014, presented by Richardson GMP and Potluck Café Society. The one-of-a-kind variety show is a evening to remember, filled with laughter, comradery and great music. The Opry has is a celebrated tradition in the lower mainland community, bringing concertgoers together to support the Potluck Café Society and its work in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
Formed in 2001, Potluck Café Society is an award-winning social enterprise that works to transform lives in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside by increasing access to healthy, nutritious food while creating stable jobs with training and life skills support.
The Grand Cariboo Opry is an entertaining show, hosted by Canadian music icon Barney Bentall, blending humorous and sentimental monologues with heartfelt sets of roots and folk favourites. Bentall is joined by an exceptional roster of friends and guests including Ridley Bent, Dustin Bentall, Wendy Bird, Kendel Carson, Matt Masters, the Gold Rush All Star band, and more specials guests to be announced.
While the Opry expands its tour across western Canada, benefiting charities in more cities, 2014 marks the last year in which Heather O’Hara, outgoing Potluck Executive Director, will be leading Potluck’s fundraising efforts in Vancouver. Since leading the first Vancouver Opry, eight years ago, Heather and team have raised $200,000 through this show. Funds raised through the Opry have enabled Potluck Café Society to prepare over 50,000 free, nutritious meals and sustain meaningful jobs in the Downtown Eastside, and will continue its support of other community programs for years to come.
