Christmas time has come and gone and it’s time to take down the decorations and if you were able to have a live tree, dispose of it. While it’s a lovely addition to your Christmas scene, a live tree can’t just go back in its box for another year.
The City of Vancouver has a few options to help you dispose of your tree:
Tree chipping events – Organized by the City of Vancouver and Lions Club volunteers provide by-donation tree chipping and disposal this weekend, January 4 and 5, 2014.
Drop-off your Christmas tree from 10:00am to 4:00pm at one of these locations (Please remove all decorations and tinsel):
- Kerrisdale Community Ice Rink parking lot
(5670 E Blvd, north of 41st Ave) - Kitsilano Beach parking lot
(Cornwall Ave and Arbutus St) - Sunset Beach upper parking lot
(Beach Ave and Broughton St) - Rona Home & Garden
(Grandview store – 2727 E 12th Ave)
Landfill/Transfer Station Disposal – Drop off your tree to the Vancouver Landfill or the Vancouver South Transfer Station for free until January 31. Remove all decorations and tinsel before dropping off your tree.
Curbside Disposal – If the City collects your food scraps and yard waste, until January 31 you can set your tree out on your regular curbside collection day. If your Christmas tree is not collected on your scheduled yard waste day, leave it set out for a later pickup as the trees are collected with a different truck than normal waste. Note that decorations and tinsel should be removed and left loose (not in a bag or tied in rope) 1 metre away from your regular garbage.
