
Thursday evening the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament kicked off at BC Place in downtown Vancouver.
From January 19 to 29, eight teams are competing for the two spots available to represent the CONCACAF region at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Two groups of 4 teams play round-robin format to reach the semi-final knockout stage, resulting in the two finalists and Olympic representatives.

Group A (Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, Haiti) starting things off with Costa Rica defeating Cuba 2-0 in front of a sparse but vocal crowd. The audience peaked at 7,620 for the main event, Canada vs Haiti. With superstar Christine Sinclair leading the way with 4 goals, Team Canada triumphed 6-0 over the visitors.

Group B (USA, Mexico, Guatemala, Dominican Republic) start their round robin on Friday Jan 20th.
