Last week, Illusionist Darcy Oake brought his Edge of Reality tour to Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre. The Canadian Oake came to international attention as a Britian’s Got Talent 2014 finalist and has parlayed that 5th place finish into an ITV special. Since then the Edge of Reality tour has thrilled audiences across Britain and Canada.
The Winnipeg born Oake’s rock-star style and charisma lends a casual atmosphere to his show. In contrast to the overly polished, dramatic Vegas style shows, Oake presents his slight-of-hand as though he’s giving you the inside access to the illusion. From the simple card and coin tricks to brain-teasing audience participation to awe-inspiring life-threatening illusions, Edge of Reality has everything. Throughout the show Oake amiably jokes and chats with the audience and shares personal stories about his father supporting his first forays into magic and the loss of his brother.
While some of the jokes are a bit off-colour, the Edge of Reality show has plenty to thrill every age, the youngsters at the Vancouver show didn’t seem to catch the adult humour. Darcy Oake Edge of Reality Canadian tour concludes this week but it won’t be the last you’ll see from the illusionist.
