Coming up next week is the Vancouver International Writers Festival. Named Canada’s best large literary festival by the Canadian Tourism Commission in 2010, this year’s event runs October 18-23 in venues throughout Granville Island. For 24 years the festival has attracted the best and brightest of the literary world, like: Margaret Atwood, Maeve Binchy, Roddy Doyle, John Irving, P.D. James, Rohinton Mistry, Frank McCourt, Alice Munro, Michael Ondaatje, JK Rowling, Salman Rushdie and Carol Shields. This year the festival welcomes, David Gilmour, Ian Rankin, Russell Banks, Adrienne Clarkson and dozens of writers from around the world for discussions, intimate readings and new introductions to their works.
