Bedhead presents Icona Pop – Commodore Ballroom – December 21, 2013
The Swedish duo Icona Pop wrapped up their North American tour this weekend at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver. The tour also featured Sirah and K Flay on the bill, who warmed up the early audience before were ready to take the stage. Unfortunately, due to some unexplained but presumed audio issues, the start of their performance was set back about 10 minutes, about 5 minutes of ‘dead air’ was filled with chants of “I-Con-A Pop, I-Con-A Pop” before the DJ returned to playing some of the 90s tracks that got the audience dancing in the breaks.
When the pair, Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo made it to the stage the crowd was overjoyed and proceeded to keep the energy up for the remainder of the 60 minute set. For a group that’s some perceive to be a one-hit wonder (time will tell), their whole set was incredibly well received and very entertaining as the two ladies, dressed in black and white colour block dressed bounded about their stage. The futuristic but simple stage set, diamond shaped video screen and lighting made the stage seem full even though there was just two performers present. Caroline did much of the talking during the set thanking the audience and proclaiming their excitement for their final show to be in Vancouver. As the set progressed, the anticipation for their hit “I Love It” grew, after closing their main set with “All Night” they returned to wrap up the show and their tour with their smash hit “I Love It” accompanied by their other acts on the bill, to toast their successes and wrap the tour officially.
