Lily Allen – Commodore Ballroom – October 5, 2014
English singer/songwriter and sometime television presenter, Lily Allen made a long awaited return to the Commodore Ballroom on Sunday night in support of her latest album, Sheezus.
It’s been a long five years since, Ms Allen’s debut hit, “Smile”, but after taking time out for marriage and babies she’s back on stage across North America. The “Hot Mother”, as a fan screamed out to her, celebrated her motherhood with a stage set with giant baby bottles and a baby bottle motif skirt (which gave way to hot pants)
The perky, personable and occasionally profane popstar engaged the Commodore audience with her giggling banter and an array of tunes from all three of her albums; “Alright, Still”, “It’s Not Me, It’s You” and “Sheezus”. The sold out audience sang and danced along to her infectious hits like Smile, LDN, The Fear and Sheezus . Lily and her four piece band were occasionally joined onstage by four back up dancers during the 90 minute long set adding even more energy to the room. The energy peaked with the final song, Fuck You, which everyone seemed to know the words to and sang along with vigour.
For the encore track, It’s Hard Out Here, Lily’s frilly top contrasted with the graphic lyrics of the cover and the cheeky dog masks the backing dancers wore for the set as they danced their way off stage for the night.
