Death From Above 1979 – Vogue Theatre – January 21, 2015
Death From Above 1979 are back, after a 5 year hiatus and 10 years between albums, with their second full length album, The Physical World. The Toronto duo kicked off their cross country tour last week with back to back to back shows at Victoria’s Sugar Nightclub, Vancouver’s Vogue Theatre and Commodore Ballroom.
The band hasn’t played the West for nearly half a decade so the audience was chopping at the bit to get a chance to see the iconic band. The devotees certainly we’re disappointed, at the show I saw, at The Vogue, they crowded the front of the stage with much moshing and crowd surfing happening in between cheers, singing and fist pumps.
As is always the case with The Vogue, the standing and seated areas leant for varied experiences for the diverse audience fans as well as varied sound quality as the overhanging balcony can affect the sound. But the amount of sound generated by just two performers was impressive and any time Sebastien Granger spoke the audience hung on every word.
