Vancouver Civic Theatres present Summer on , a series of FREE outdoor events taking place at 650 Hamilton Street throughout July and August.
Everyone is welcome to take part, activities for all ages include the return of Dance Dance Dance – Pop-Up Dance Classes and Sunset Cinema – Movie Screenings. New this season is Summer Sounds a series of open-air concerts filling the square with movement, movies and music.
More details for the dance classes and movie line-up will be coming soon but the music artists participating in Sumer Sounds have been announced.
Summer Sounds: Free Open-Air Concerts
Thursdays July 25 – August 29, 2024 – Happy Hour and live music begin at 4:30pm
Gather with friends & colleagues for happy hour and free live musical performances featuring a diverse all-local line-up of bands, singer-songwriters, DJs and more including;
Jul 25: Land Back Records Spotlight: The local Indigenous owned & operated record label Land Back Records, will curate a line-up of artists they represent.
Aug 1: Devours & Parlour Panther: Synth-pop artist Devours’ (Jeff Cancade) critically-acclaimed electronic music explores masculinity, love, and the darker side of queer existence while indie-rock act Parlour Panther brings their captivating chemistry, exceptional musicianship, and distinct & daring sound to Summer Sounds.
Aug 8: Locals Lounge Spotlight: Feature a line-up of artists curated by Locals Lounge, which strives to be your tour guide to Vancouver’s abundant musical talent, and to use the power of live music to bring people together and build connections.
Aug 15: Madelyn Read & Jasper Sloan Yip: Madelyn Read blends classic country instrumentation with lyrics about growing up in Vancouver to produce a unique alt-country sound. Indie-artist guitarist/vocalist Jasper Sloan Yip is known for his earnest warmth, skillfully introspective songwriting, and gorgeous chamber pop arrangements.
Aug 22: Sarah McLachlan School of Music Student Spotlight: The Sarah McLachlan School of Music will put their talented student musicians in the spotlight.
Aug 29: Closing Party with DJ Nea Stonefox & DJ Paisley Eva: DJ Nea Stonefox is the Resident DJ of AfroQueer YVR and Host of GUSH Radio who specializes in Soca, Dancehall, Afrobeat and Hip-hop. From the Squamish Nation, DJ Paisley Eva fills local club, party, and festival dance floors with a high energy mix of obscure underground tracks and beloved classics guaranteed to keep the square hopping for the last Happy Hour of the season.
Dance Dance Dance: Free Pop-Up Dance Classes
Fridays July 19 – August 16, 2024 – Classes begin at 6:30pm
From Latin dance styles to swing dance and voguing, everyone is welcome to join in an eclectic mix of FREE dance classes – no experience required! Each event includes a free dance lesson followed by an evening of social dancing as the sun sets.
