The Royal Canadian College of Organists has a treat for music lovers and fans of the movie Interstellar, Roger Sayer, the organ soloist for the Oscar-nominated score, will perform in Vancouver for one night only. The Interstellar 10 Organ Concert Tour concludes its Canadian leg October 25th at St. Andrew’s-Wesley United Church in Vancouver.
In 2014, Sayer worked with Hans Zimmer to create the soundtrack for the blockbuster film Interstellar. Since then, the music from the movie has developed a huge following, introducing the organ to many audiences for the first time. Sayer is celebrating the movie’s 10th anniversary with a worldwide Interstellar 10 Concert Tour, having presented to sold-out audiences in Japan, Australia, the United Kingdom and Europe. Vancouver is the last of the five Canadian Interstellar 10 tour stops presented by The Royal Canadian College of Organists.
During the show, Sayer will share his experiences of working with cinematic icons Zimmer and director Christopher Nolan, before playing his own transcription of all the epic hits from the soundtrack on the organ, the instrument that Zimmer specifically used to express the wonder and mystery of space. “He [Sayer] is without doubt an extraordinary artist whose humanity shines in the impeccable artistry that flows from his hands” says Zimmer.
“The organ has a long and storied history in church music, however, it is also a complex, magnificent instrument with a growing body of newly composed music created by today’s innovators and composers,” explains Elizabeth Shannon, Executive Director, Royal Canadian College of Organists. “We hope that through the Interstellar 10 Organ Concert, more people can experience the organ’s extraordinary power and versatility in a thrilling live concert, to understand how it inspired Zimmer to elicit the immenseness and mystery of space in the creation of the intergalactic score.”
