Music on Main has unveiled its 19th season for 2024/2025, brimming with captivating performances, innovative collaborations, and inspiring musical experiences.
October 9th, 2024 the season gets underway with one of Music on Main’s new community projects; in partnership with BC Brain Wellness – online Wellness Wednesday features Music on Main artist Erika Switzer and PhD student in neuroscience, Mikey Jose.
October 20th, 2024 The Post at 750 welcomes an Intergenerational Song Sharing Event with Cynthia Friesen on October 20th. The in-person participatory event is designed to bring together people of all ages to experience joy and connection through music.
Slow Socials: Around Sound is a team-up between Music on Main and The Only Animal (TOA) to present several collaborative events, inviting artists from Music on Main’s season and from TOA’s sound installation project “AWSS” (Autumn-Winter, Spring-Summer) for artistic exchange and informal discussion of their practices. Dates for Slow Socials: Around Sound are still to be announced.
Music on Main’s celebrated Modulus Festival will not be held this season but will return in November 2025 as it transitions into a biennial event which will keep the Festival running in the face of escalating costs and limited funding. The Modulus Festival is known around the world as one of Canada’s most important new music events, programming will be revealed later this season.
November 3rd, 2024 at the Roundhouse Community Arts Centre, Music on Main presents a one-night extravaganza with the Flat Earth Society, one of Belgium’s most original bands on the jazz and avant-garde musical scene.
December 11th & 12th, 2024 brings Music on Main’s beloved Holiday special, Music for the Winter Solstice 2024 to Heritage Hall, challenging the gloom of winter with the light of sound.
January 28th & 29th, 2025 the year begins with Bijuriya by Gabriel Dharmoo a music composer and experimental vocalist. Bijuriya is a drag artist engaging with South Asian culture touch the hearts of fellow brown queers. They are the same person, coming to the stage as one with their hybrid multifaceted identity.
February 16th, 2024 BIG BANG Festival comes to Vancouver for the first time. BIG BANG Festival is an ode to adventurous music and sound art for young audiences. Promising a vibrant journey through a diverse range of melodic experiences, where children don’t have to sit still and listen but get to discover new sound concepts that captivate with their originality.
April 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th, 2025 finds A Month of Tuesdays at The Fox Cabaret, enjoy four Spring concerts blending the classic with the unexpected, as the series showcases both established stars and emerging talents; including international sensation Laura Bowler with Standing Wave Ensemble, composer and electronic music artist Alfredo Santa Ana, violinist Chloe Kim, pianist Eve Egoyan, and Dálava, known for reanimating traditional songs from Slovácko (Czechia) with a unique blend of folk, improvisation, new classical, and ritual.
August 2025 brings the 11th edition of The Kessler Academy, the mentorship program for young professionals and advanced students, comprising of six days of intensive rehearsal followed by a public performance presented by Music on Main.
August 18th – 20th, 2025 the season wraps up with another series of free Summer Pop-Up Concerts outdoors at Mount Pleasant Park.
Music on Main is also working on several projects in community with Tsleil-Waututh artists and youth and taking part in the “Musicians for Reconciliation Initiative”. Additionally, offering free tickets to those who self-identify as Indigenous, ensuring greater access and representation within the community.
