The Solstice is upon us! Let’s see what entertainment the summer is bringing us this week
Gangsters: With an all-star cast of Vancouver Theatre, you can’t miss out on seeing the spectacular “Musical Fable of Broadway” Guys and Dolls running until June 30th, at The Arts Club Theatre Company Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage.
Rock: Starting previews tomorrow for Ring of Fire, letting the music of Johnny Cash to take us on a captivating journey of trials and triumphs, love and redemption at The Arts Club Theater Company Granville Island Stage until August 11th.
Dancing: The 36th Dancing on the Edge Festival wraps up Saturday, June 22 with performances at various venues across Vancouver including Firehall Arts Centre, Scotiabank Dance Centre and SFU’s Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, as well as off-site presentations at Beaconsfield and David Lam Parks
Seniors: Until Sunday June 23rd at PAL Studio Theatre, Western Gold Theatre presents the world premiere of Super Seniors, a new comedy by Kathryn Shaw, takes you to the Fairfield Residence to meet three women over the age of 105 who have differing responses to their extraordinarily long lives
Indigenous: Friday June 21st, brings a host of activities to honour National Indigenous Peoples Day, an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the history, heritage, resilience and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis across Canada.
Shakespeare: The 2024 Bard on the Beach season is underway with the Mainstage Shows Twelfth Night and Hamlet in rotation now.
Debut: Chinatown Storytelling Centre opens a new exhibition this Sunday with Free admission, Neighbours: From Pender to Hastings is a special exhibit celebrating the unique heritage of Hastings Street, its close ties to Chinatown, and the launch of Bob & Michael’s Place, an innovative community housing project at 58 West Hastings.
Play: A true sign of the pending Summer season, Playland is open on weekends with a special Solstice Night June 22nd
Festival: The Westward Music Festival returns this Saturday and Sunday with a main stage at City Center Artist Lodge and other locations around Mount Pleasant and The Vogue Theatre.
Improv: Until July 13th The Improv Centre on Granville Island takes audiences to Camp What’s-It-Called for its feature summer show on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm
Premiere: Also closing June 23, Pi Theatre’s Canadian premiere of Medicine, a heartbreaking, yet hugely energizing and thrilling journey through one man’s troubled past, at the Vancity Culture Lab Friday.
Circus: One of the season’s most thrilling shows, Barbu from Québec’s Cirque Alfonse comes to a close at The Cultch Historic Theatre on June 23
