The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) has debuted its 2024/25 Season, a season filled with music to capture the imaginations and emotions of all ages.
“Our world needs music now more than ever, and we invite you to experience the monumental beauty and emotional power of the orchestra. For the past 106 years, the VSO has brought communities together across the Lower Mainland to share exquisite musical experiences and celebrate some of the most gifted artists from around the world,” says Otto Tausk, VSO Music Director
The Symphony 2024/25 Season brings classical masterworks, like Stravinsky’s The Firebird or Beathoven’s 9th Symphony. Hollywood classic scores performed live include Coco, Skyfall, Star Trek, Field of Dreams, Superman in Concert. Musical tributes to The Beatles, Gene Kelly, Paul Simon and more. Spend the Holidays with the VSO and its popular seasonal programming; Traditional Christmas on Tour, Home Alone, The Snowman and Elf in concert, A Canadian Brass Christmas, Vivaldi’s Four Seasons at Chan Centre, and Salute to Vienna New Year’s Concert.
Guests performing with the VSO include famed pianist Lang Lang performing with pianist Gina Alice, his wife. Oscar and Grammy winning composer Tan Dun, conducting the Canadian Premiere of his work, Buddha’s Passion. Renowned Angela Hewitt performs Mozart’s Piano Concerto No 15. Bard on the Beach founder Christopher Gaze returns for another season of Tea and Trumpets; fun and engaging afternoons of stories and symphony.
Kids aren’t left out of the VSO’s season either with Sunday afternoon concerts; The Spirit Horse Returns, Platypus Theatre: How the Gimquat Found Her Song, Classical Kids Live! Vivaldi & The Ring of Mystery, Dan Brown’s Wild Symphony, and Daughter of the Inner Star.
Ensuring everyone has access to great music, the VSO takes the show out of the Orpheum with the suburban concert series Surrey Night at Bell Performing Arts Centre in Surrey and North Shore Classics at Centennial Theatre, North Vancouver. VSO’s Annual Day of Music offers free concerts throughout the day at The Orpheum, School of Music and The Annex as well as other spots around Metro Vancouver. Part of the VSOs commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, The Path Forward, offers an evening of collaboration between the VSO and Indigenous artists and musicians.
