Sunday night saw the debut of the Canadian Screen Awards, presented by Martin Short from Sony Centre in Toronto and broadcast on CBC. Replacing the formerly seperate Gemini – Television Awards and Genie – Film Awards, the Canadian Screen Awards celebrated the best in Canadian film, English language television (French tv has its own ceremony) and digital media. After the 2012 awards season, the Canadian Academy felt this merger was a better way to recognize screen achievement and advancement. Canadian Screen week preceding the awards ceremony featured industry technical awards, receptions, parties, networking and public meet and greets bringing fans and celebrities together.
